February 2010 Wrap Up
The Palm Beach Parklands certainly turned on the striking weather for SUPSA’s first meet of 2010. With a forecast of drizzle and 15 - 20 kts north easterlies, somehow our planned Family Fun and Demo Day avoided what could have been a poor turn-out due to the predicted conditions. Instead, deep blue skies attracted a mass of interest from people of all ages, leaving an open canvas of this fun, social gathering of old and new members. Read more ...

FEBRUARY WRAP UP
The first event for 2011 has been a HUGE SUCCESS .... Sunday morning dawned with no wind, bright skies and very warm. The air held a promise of doing one thing and one thing only, getting hotter. What a fantastic day for a paddle of a mere 10 kilometers from the peeling rights of Snapper Rocks all the way across to the tranquil waters of the Currumbin Estuary. By 8.30am, a crowd of 30 paddlers had been sorted into their respective distance categories being either the 10km or 5km, and we were off for the 15 minutes drive to Snapper Rocks (or Tugun as the case may be).
Wasn't much time to available to admire the great line up of different boards laid out on the grass at Snapper as the Prez soon had everyone organised and off to the most southerly shark buoy on the Gold Coast shark nets to assemble in an orderly fashionable starting line. It was decided that it might be best to send Macca out first to the buoy just to make sure nothing in a grey suit was lurking around out there and everyone was re assured to see that he sat happily on his board for two minutes, with his legs dangling over the side with no signs of ill effect. So we all proceeded to that supposedly orderly starting line. A quick one minute staging which allowed some of the more sneaky paddlers to inch forward (or meter forward as the case may be Steveo) and we were off, all 20 of us. And straight off we were, straight into a pod of dolphins who seemed to be heralding something, it would turn out they were trying to tell us "Hey Guys and Girls, do you know how hot you are going to get over the next hour or so"?
As this was all going on, under the expert direction of Alison “Ali Cat” Fullager, a small number of fun paddlers set off from Tugun for their 5klm paddle back to Currumbin. It wouldn't be too long before they would also be joined my "Just Like” Mike Manning and Mark “Lacey” Waldeck leading another group of fun paddlers who wanted to complete the 10klm paddle but not at the break neck speed occurring 1 kilometer out to sea. The group had a blast, encountering schools of fish or all sizes and the odd occasional wave or two that made things a little more interesting. Huge kudos goes to new member Kathryn Lape who completed the 5 klm paddle on her new SUP, and also being first time beyond the break ever. Evidently the smile on Kathryn's face at the finish was unable to be removed for the next 48 hours. And another huge effort by the “Frenchman” Vincie Dumarski, beating his PB by more than 15 minutes. He was soon whisked away for a urine sample!
Back out to sea, the pack had stretched out now as they approached Elephant Rock and for the turn back into the creek. After going that hard for that long in that heat, all that you wanted to do was hit that creek water and finish. Then it hits you, the sight of 1000 people crowded onto the small but beautiful waves at the Alley means you will have to paddle just that little bit further north to successfully navigate the entrance to Currumbin Creek. Finally all paddlers were back in, safe and certainly somewhat less sound than they were about an hour and a bit ago.
A massive thanks goes out to all of our water safety and our instructional helpers. They are Mike “Like Mike” Manning, Mark “Lacey” Waldeck, Chris “Chambers” Chamberlin, Alison “Ali Cat” Fullager and Steve “VP” Richardson, and also to the guys who supplied trailers and transport to and from Snapper Rocks. Cheers!

Hopefully we have everyone accounted for in the table as the distance times and placings record sheet looks like a doctor has entered the info in.
Next event is our first surfing round and it is smack middle at the end of the Cyclone season so we should hopefully see some of Queensland's (and Australia's for that matter) hottest SUP surfers battle it out for the glory that is the "smelly coconut!!!!"

SUPSA presentation 2010
The 2010 SUPSA Presentation was held in February of 2011. Go Figure….! Well after much consideration of the amount of Xmas parties and holidaying droving nomads, it seemed a likely choice to hold it after the silly season and once the kids had gone back to school.
Once again, we shared an evening at the Head Quarters of the “Real Fresh” lager of Burleigh Brewing Company. Not only does this mob brew the tastiest ale in Duke Land, the mighty East Coast, they also throw a pretty awesome shindig the first Friday of each month, as Fund Raising evenings for local clubs and organisations alike. And we, SUPSA just happened to jump on board for this opportunity to not only hold our Prezzo but also benefit from the proceeds of this night. Quite a considerable amount of money was raised through raffles and donations from club members and the “Duke” public in which was donated to the “Paddle for the Flood Appeal” which was held two days later on the Sunday.
It was a fantastic evening of laugh’s, great food and local house band “the Lamplights” pumping out the beats to the tune of about 250 people. 68 of them being SUPSA club members and partners. We decided to present the awards of the 2010 season in true SUPSA fashion. A lot of Beer, bull shit and pissing in the wind! And this is how it ended……………

Although we were still in the teething stages of the club’s development, 2010 was a fantastic year for the club. Membership was healthy of vast ages and abilities and the bank account was even more in the pink with the club partaking in several external SUP events.
Congratulations to all award recipients and most of all to the SUPSA Committee of Troy Pease, Steve Richardson, Chris McCall, Mark Waldeck and Sam Hughes for their tireless effort through out the year which now has set a incredible base for an even bigger 2011 season.

November 2010 wrap up
With the Coastal Watch forecast of a dramatically dropping swell and an east south east wind was not to be on our menu. And after a couple of weeks of semi epic conditions on the Goldy, the final round of the SUPSA Club Champs was looking a bit strained. Although past history indicates that the previous rounds of the Club Championships, Huey had been kind to us. The day before saw some smoking peaks from one end of the coast to the other, and we all know holding your breath for the swell to maintain over to the next day, is detrimental to your health.
As the Vice President and Secretary had both agreed the day before over bacon and eggs and a skinny chino, Sea Street at Tugun was to be the venue for the final round of the SUPSA Surfing Club Championships. It was a great call however, right up til the major final as the southerly blew its guts out and turned the tidy 2-3 foot of swell into very testies testing conditions, seeing a rip popping through the mid bank like a pair of DD’s in an A-cup bra! Eighteen was the number, very impressive as it looks with a few newbie’s, a few welcome backs and some of the same ol’ same ol’ hanging shit on battling each other, vying for the big points to close the year.
An early morning SUPSA greeting was fronted with a few cold Powerade’s, Choccy Milk, fresh fruit and a bit of surfing. Nice touch there Chrisso. AKA Chisso! A little different you might say? All I say is “embrace the change my friends…………and let’s hug it out!”
Heat 1, round 1 had Peasey pipping out Chrisso “Le Sec” McCall, Tea Tree then Hinzy.
Heat 2, round 1 of the “Bikinis” saw SUPSA virgin Sondra taking it out over Jen “anyone know a good board repairer” Ryan and Ali “I just keep breaking” Fullager in third.
Heat 3, round 1 of the men’s, with Jacko sneaking home by half a point over “Big” Greg Sunderland, Steveo Walker, Walker, Walker, Von Piroski (if he was Russian) and Pete “P2” Pembroke.
Heat 4, round 1 saw Bretto edge out the Vice President Richo, leaving Scotty P and the “Pelican”, John Harris to fight it our for the minors. Johhno, happy to sit this one out as he arrived with about 5 minutes to go in the heat.
Heat 5, round 2 and final of the “Lady’s” had Sondra and Jen in a Siamese squeeze and could not be separated with Ali a mere point behind. Sondra taking the honours with Jen and Ali in the order.
Heat 6, round 2 was a stacked round of big names. Jacko pulling himself it off with his final wave over Johnno, “Scooter” Penwarn, Richo then Tea Tree.
Heat 7, round 2 saw Peasey knocking off Chrisso, Hinzy and Pete Pembroke in the rear.
Heat 8, round 2 of the men’s SUP had Greg and Bretto in a tie for first and both securing a final’s birth. Piros in third on top of Steveo and Pelican respectively.
The Final, or the “Blue Ribbon Event”, as it was shouted from the mass gaggle of SUP groupies got underway with conditions falling apart like a leper in a sticker factory but as they say, “the show must go on”. And yes it did with Peasey taking out the day, favouring his forehand on the lefts rifling into the gutter. With Jacko, or “AC” to some, pulled second place on his skate board, well not really but just as small. He did mange to get his board beyond vertical on one score but unable to hold another for his second wave. Third place was Richo, with some much needed points to set him up for an overall championship position. The right hander’s were kind to him but needed that second high scored wave to get him in the gold. Big Greg surfed solidly for fourth, turning inside and out with the drop in tide, racing on his front side. Fifth place was Bretto. Surfed consistently but wave quality starved him from a big finish. In the rear, and I know that has been a sore subject for the SUPSA secretary of late. Chrisso McCall found the conditions a little tough with the wind turning a blustery on shore. His two wave count was a bit under norm for this season veteran.
See you in the waves
The Prez.
July 2010 wrap up
The rumour of an early call of postponement was eminent, as the SUPSA Contest Directors were honed in on a forecast of gusty south east winds, showers and small swell. But just like a costume change of an exotic dancer at “Players” on a men’s only night, so did the forecast. Change that is, pristine blue skies with just a wisp of off-shore, and a 2-3 foot swell greeted the 18 SUP enthusiasts to this, the 2nd Round of SUPSA Club Champs.
With a few of the big names out for the count due to unforseen reasons, participating numbers were surprisingly up. Around 8 of the First Round Champ punters were “no shows” and we still were able to hold down a fantastic attendance. Old names, new names and nicknames were thrown around leaving a wide open run to the Final Round in November.’
3rd Ave Burleigh Heads, once again played a great script in servicing the venue, leaning on this area being SUPSA’s “Spot x”. The heat draw was penned, the tent was erect, and I said tent, as the first heat got underway with a sea of paddle thrashing ferocity.
Heat 1 Round 1 of the men’s 9’8” and under category saw Peasey get up over Scotty P in 2nd with Richo and Hinzy in 3rd and 4th respectively.
Heat 2 Round 1 of the women’s 9’8” and under SUP saw a brutal session for Ali and new comer Jenny “JJ” Johnston, with the turn of the tide. Jenny also has some great skills she can contribute to the club (as written on her membership form) of cleaning, cooking and sewing. Thanks Jen, we’ll be in touch! Both did very well and finished in that order.
Heat 3 Round 1 of the men’s 9’8” and under with another new comer and hubby of “JJ”, Greg Johnston. Johnno, nearly posting the first perfect 10 of the club’s history with a twin barrel, unfortunately having his bald head permanently parted after his second cover up. He took out the heat, closely followed by Rob, took me two weeks to stick my deck grip on” Pirie and Andrew “the official SUPSA photographer” Edhouse in 3rd. And a nice new board to boot!
Heat 4 Round 1 of the men’s 9’8” and under class had one of the favourites Paul “son of SUPworld” Jackson taking the heat win over another new member Greg “Star Burst” Sunderland, “McChris McCall”, Barry “Bazza” Hatch (new member) and Andrew “Hammer Time” Hamilton in that direction.
Heat 5 Round 2 of the combined 9’8” and under saw “the Prez” with two from two over Johnno in 2nd, beating “Tea Tree” on a count back, then Hinzy falling to another count back with Alison in the rear.
Heat 6 Round 2 of the combined 9’8” and under class had Jacko a stand out and again with two from two, Chriso in 2nd, Hammo, Bazza then Julian. Jules just making his first appearance for the morning still with his mobile phone attached to his ear. Good thing that his Black Berry has a battery talk time of about 4 hours! Buy, sell, buy sell………Jenny opting against another flogging, just stayed on the beach and hung shit on the other guys!
Heat 7 Round 2 of the men’s 9’8” and under had Big Greg with the two highest heat scores of the day taking out the round. Richo in 2nd with Piros in 3rd giving the top three a ticket to the final. Scotty P and Johnny “The Fuzz” Harris made up the final numbers.
The Repechage Final got under way with still unspoilt conditions within the comp area. Scotty P drew first blood and was unheeded throughout the 20 minute final with some great down the line trimming. In 2nd place was Alison who secured her position on her final wave. Favouring her forehand paid off in the end with some tight turns in the pocket. 3rd place had Julian “Legal Eagle” Blanchard with a consistent score card as he too, jumped aboard the right hander’s with a couple of nice layback turns on the inside. In 4th place was “Tea Tree” Edhouse. Jumped out of the blocks early but was unlucky to back up his first scoring wave. Hammo in 5th was slow to hit his mark until his final wave on the hooter, which in turn was the highest scored wave of the final. Hinzy was to make up the final numbers but took the bolt early, earning him minor points for the day.
The Premier Final was seen as the “Battle Royale”. The names were as big as spelling Hungarian Towns in a Sensis Search! Seven in total, giving the judges a full array of coloured rashies clouding the sea. Twenty minutes was the amount, and was ample time to secure the waves needed, as most of the finalists neared their ten wave card limit. Jacko polished off a great day with the “DAILY TRIPLE”. Yes that’s right, three from three. Chalky leg or not, his forehand attack on the rights left day light between he and the other punters. Peasey pulled 2nd posi on backing the lefts, floating a few sections into the mid bank securing his podium finish. In the bronze was Piros. A consistent score card had him well cemented, managing to release the fins on his “Evil Twin” off a few lips. 4th place was Johnno. Coming off a near perfect first heat, the natural footer was pipped at the post and had to wear a 2-point deficit. Richo had fallen to 5th position after housing one the higher scores of the final. Just needing another to compliment his long right hand jaunt which the classy southerner smashed every stemming lip! Big Greg came up with 6th place. Never to be out done, the new comer was a little bogged with choosing some quality waves. But he did boast one of the best bottom hand turns of the day! (We believe it’s on camera too!) Chris Mc in 7th place (I won’t say in the rear) paddle from bank to bank seeking that perfect bump to role through. As it turned out, Jacko caught it!
For all the members who showed and threw the rubber on, congratulations. A special mention and very much appreciating thank you to Pieter and Sandra of SUPWorld Magazine, in which a few lucky members scored the very first edition.
Once again thanks to the SUPSA committee of Peaso, Richo, Chriso and Marko. Another big thanks goes to Andrew “Tea Tree” Edhouse behind the lens. He will one day get some pics taken of himself. Oh, and Dale for his cameo appearance on the judging panel!
See you all next month,

Roar Industries Comp & Xcel Paddle Race - June 2010
Hey all,
The Roar Industries comp has been run and won. Congratulations to all of the SUPSA members who competed. Well done to Jacko and Angie on a fantastic and well organised event. It’s a shame the weather and surf conditions weren’t kind but all in all, everyone that competed seemed to have a ball. Check out all the related news on the Roar Comp through the news section of www.surfingqueensland.com.
The SUPSA Club was also invited by Roar and Surfing Queensland to run the catering side of the event. Both Saturday and Sunday had Chris, Richo and Peasey on the tongs, cooking up snags in between surfing heats. At days end and after a few XXXX Summer Bright’s, we raised around $700 for the SUPSA club with the sausage sizzle and drinks tent.
Surfing Queensland must have thought we did such a great job burning the snags that day that they invited us back for another crack and cater for the Xcel Paddle Race two weeks later. This time, we went above and beyond our ordinary backyard cooking skills and smashed out 300 hamburgers to all competitors and guests on completion of the grueling 9 ½ km paddle.
Once again, the club was well represented, in the race that is (not the BBQ) with some stand out performances from the following members. Congratulations to Troy Pease (1st place Open Men’s 12’6” Stock SUP), Alison Fullager (1st place Open Women’s Unlimited SUP) and Mark Waldeck (1st place over 40 Unlimited SUP). To all other SUPSA members who did compete, well done and it’s a credit to yourselves for finishing the race, as fighting the south westerly wind to stay on course was a task in itself. Check out all the related news on the Xcel Paddle Race through the news section of www.surfingqueensland.com.
A big thank you to Chris and Peasey for organizing and setting up the Xcel BBQ shindig. Chris especially for getting there at bails and lasting til stumps. Another thank you to Mark “Lacey” Waldeck for helping on "bun patrol" and being part of this fine service make shift establishment, called the SUPSA “Walk Through” BBQ. The BBQ tongs and knob controllers (Chris and Peasey, in no particular order) were well refreshed with once again, XXXX Summer Bright Ale and also happen to see the gnawed crust’s of a couple of gourmet burgers themselves.
As the race was heavily sponsored and supported by Xcel, Da Kine, Kirra Surf and Surfing Queensland, all catering and refreshments were paid for by the above and left in the capable hands of SUPSA to organise and manage that side of the event. In turn, around $900 was donated to the club, which is a fantastic financial injection for SUPSA.
Cheers

May 2010 wrap up
Early morning rain was not about to spoil the second round of SUPSA’s Club Championships. As it turned out, the clouds soon passed, racers rolled up and the sun’s heat beamed down on us like a pie in a warm oven.
And although the thought of a free ride home, rounding the half way turning point (barnacle laden bridge pylon) up stream, and back with the out going tide was going to make things easier, it didn’t. It just seemed that the further up stream you are, the less assistance from the tide. Or was it the fact that the course set out by Mark “Lacey” Waldeck was tough for a flat water race. The winding angles of the creek or chicanes, as put by paddler Julian Blanchard, and the negotiating of jetties and over hanging mangrove branches in which Noel Graham found out and just about needing a chain saw to cut himself free and get him back out on the river, were just some of the obstacles thrown down as 14 eager punters made it back to Winders Park semi unscathed!
The Girls started out first with a 15 minute buffer from the guys. And the gap wasn’t nearly threatened as a cracking pace was set from go to woo. Angie (Unlimited 14 foot), who also forgot, after jumping in the water at the finish she was still wearing her non amphibious MP3 player, crossed the line first ahead of Simone “Roller Derby” Horsfield in second on a Stock 12’6” board and absolutely flying. In third and only just edged out of the silver was Alison Fullager (Unlimited 14 foot). In fourth overall and third in the Unlimited Category was Liz Ricketts. Although it says she’s 58 years young on her driver’s license, she paddles like a teenager and has the enthusiasm and excitement of a kid at Christmas. You could really gauge how fast these girls were paddling when we crossed paths Part River. Well done girls.
The guys got underway, a little bit of a rolling start as we all were eager to get on with it. Dale and Noel jumped out of the gates early and it was a bit of tag and follow the leader in the initial stages. Dale by far looked the consummate racer with his spandex tights on! He also pretty much led from start to finish taking out first place. (Unlimited 14 foot) Peasey making no friends with a fisherman getting snagged on his line and trolling it down stream, got the jump on Noel at the half way turn and held off his late charge to finish second overall. (First Stock 12’6”) Noel into third place Unlimited, with a couple of scratches to boot. Jay Gates rolled in fourth overall (second Stock 12’6”) edging out Scotty Penwarn in fifth, (3rd Stock 12’6”) sporting a new style of head wear. The “SUP Burka”. Or commonly know as helmet cam! Check out www.greenlinepaddlesurf.com for the footage. Andrew “In da House” Edhouse glided in 6th overall (third Unlimited 15 Foot) just holding out “Legal Eagle” Julian Blanchard in seventh (Fourth Unlimited 14 foot) and Pete Fowler in eighth overall and fifth in Unlimited. Stuart Phinn made up the final numbers on a very stock length of 12 foot which was very testing with the run out tide.
After a tad over 8km’s and about one hour of paddling, we all basked in the Autumn sun, told stories of mythical waves and laughed at jokes when you know they weren’t funny. The BBQ was fired (Big thanks to Scotty Roots or Mr. Tongs for cooking), the sauce was flowing and Mike “Mike Man” Manning grabbed the stage with his Down Wind Paddling Safety advice. Thanks to Mike, very informal and interesting and I’m sure a lot of us keen Down Wind Paddlers took something away from him (I tried to take his GPS but he caught me).
A big thanks to Richo and Mark for setting up early and getting the event organised.
Cheers

April 2010 wrap up
Well, this was it. The first one, the first time. A virgin ready in the waiting. No, not a passage taken from a Mills and Boons novel you wandering minds, but the nervous anticipation of thought and action, the 2010 SUPSA committee was feeling on holding their first Club Championship round.
The word was out, the people were talking and the interest from the SUP community was as exciting as an 18 year old at happy hour.
The rumour mill was a buzzin’ with the talk of Mermaid and Palmy having the banks from hell over the past few weeks, but with the close of school holidays and other clubs holding comps in those areas, 3rd Ave Burleigh was to be the battle ground to don the gloves and “smack down”, SUPSA’s first comp of 2010.
18 punters in total graced the hallow sand of the Gold Coast’s central break. Delivering a clean 1-2 foot wave, the off-shore winds and out-going tide made it competitive to see who would draw first blood in what was on offer. With not a cloud in the sky, the first heat got underway, the BBQ was stable and the esky was full of WATER!….what the? Who forgot the BEER………………….
Heat 1 round 1 of the men’s under 9’8” saw Noel “should be on tour” Graham taking it out over Rob “Piros” Pirie, Julian Blanchard then Scotty Penwarn.
Heat 2 round 1 of the men’s 9’8” and over had Troy “the Prez” Pease getting up on Stevie “Wonder” Guyer and Andrew “The Hammer” Hamilton respectively.
Heat 3 round 1 of the men’s under 9’8” had Andy “Dial a Wave” Davies with the nod over Brett “The Builder, can he fix it” Williams, Paul “Mate, that leg is still broke” Jackson, Chris “No pineapple in my fruit salad” McCall and Darryl “Big Russ” Hinze in order.
Heat 4 round 1 had a mixed bag of every length and gender. Dale “the kids made me late” Chapman having to go it alone in the under 9’8” and progress with ease. Andrew “Tea Tree” Edhouse on a count back over Steve “V.P Richo” Richardson in the 9’8” and over. Then the girls went out for a play with Jen “no new artwork” Ryan sneaking home over Alison “Palmy Army” Fullager and Elyse “just score white only” Commerford.
Heat 5 round 2 and the under 9’8” Final saw the SUP surfing giants of Noel and Andy battling it out with just 1.5 points separating them. Noel the eventual winner favoured the right hander’s to rip up with a barrage of snaps and floaters to boot. Andy in 2nd place did manage to secure the highest scored wave of the round with a massive forehand snap to tail slide but fell short with his second wave. Piros in 3rd and also knocking at the door with two high scored waves milking everything to the beach. Bretto just outside the podium finish was not out done but finding the quality waves was not to be.
Heat 6 round 2 of the Men’s 9’8” and over class, which also acted as a Final saw two points separating the top three place getters. Peasey grabbed the honours with the local “goofy footer” selecting what seemed to be every left hander that came through. In second place and .5 of a point behind was Richo. Pretty much had done everything to take the day with some smokin’ rights which secured him the highest score of the final. Tea Tree took the bronze in the tightly contested final round, managing to rip the inside bank apart between clicks of his camera. In fourth and not out done in his first comp was Hammo. Both he and Stevie Guyer who rounded out the final numbers looked quite comfortable as the out-going tide started to wall up on the inside.
Heat 7 round 2 of the Men’s under 9’8” SUP Repechage Final had local big name Dale Chapman making a late charge after a trip to Maccas, seeing him take the points with some big forehand tail slides. In second and just being pipped at the post was Big Chris. He was adamant he surfed more waves than what was scored. Something the judges did notice that the big man can pull his 9’4” inside and out with some great cutties the mark. Scotty “Grrrrrreenline” Penwarn jumped out of the gates quick but finding that second big score to back it up was tough. His third place does sit him there nice going into Round 2 of the Club Champs in July. 4th spot in the Rep Final was Julian Blanchard. He too was unable to find that elusive second high scored wave to compliment his first.
Darryl Hinze was another fresh SUP’er to the competition a side of the things and held some very consistent scores through both rounds.
Heat 8 round 2 of the Woman’s had Jen Ryan taking an early lead and was never headed. Some nice controlled turns off her paddle impressed the judges and was awarded well. In second place was Elyse. After calling the colours in Andy’s final (no other colour than white) nearly grabbed the gold on her last wave but fell short of 1.5 points. Her confidence growing and growing after each wave did see the NSW northerner milk some rights with some tidy turns in the pocket. In third and a further 2 points behind was Ali. Also set on milking the rights through the mid bank, her ability to change direction and pivot off her paddle was impressive. In fact all three girls really made a big impact with some fine SUP surfing in the deteriorating conditions.
A big thanks to the SUPSA committee (Peasey, Richo, Chris and Mark) for organising and running the contest.

March 2010 Wrap Up
Whilst ex-tropical cyclone Ului was lingering off the mid North Queensland Coast, the prediction of epic waves were on the menu. Noosa was pumping, the Goldy was all time and the date set for the March SUPSA Surfing Comp was just perfect. Like a mangy dog salivating outside the window of a butcher, the anticipation of scoring sick waves was exciting.
Well, as the date neared, the Goldy couldn't hold the big swell. Except for the points, all the beachies had unusual facing banks that couldn't hold up to the onslaught. So, as SUPSA has a responsibility to up hold, it was not worth risking the lives of members who participate in this fun sport of Stand Up Paddle Surfing. After much deliberation over coffee (about 2 minutes) the committee decided to postpone the Round 1 Surfing Event to Sunday April 11.
The venue is yet to be decided as we will endeavour to find the best suitable break for every competitor. Keep your eyes peeled for information regarding the April Comp in the SUPSA Website and SeaBreeze.
Hopefully see you all in April.

Whilst one of the main organisers and original foundation member of the SUPSA Club was away for that particular weekend, he did leave strict instructions for the new 2010 Club Committee (The Kids) to take hold of the reins to lead the way for a fun filled day down at the Parklands.
There were plenty of Demo Boards on hand from Brand Agents, Shapers and Specialty SUP Shops which were constantly swapped over for other boards of all shapes and sizes. A big thankyou to Scott Penwarn of Greenline SUP Shop, Jacko, Angie and Alison of Roar Industries, Pete & Dave (Surf Tech), Chris Ikstrom (Southpoint), Craig Huf (Kaimana), Adrian Birse (Lahui Kai) and Dale Chapman (DC).
The frantic splashing of paddles did attract a lot of curiosity from random beach goers that wandered down, and were introduced to the SUP experience then and there. Some were over joyed with the stoke whilst one other was “head hunting” from an altercation she imposed on a 6 year old. Very comical indeed if you can imagine an elderly woman walking about 200mt to whine, wearing flippers and goggles!
Well done to the new 2010 Committee for hosting the day. It was a little over whelming to begin with as the Palmy Parklands was absolutely packed to the Pirate Ship with families, celebrating Valentines Day. Special thanks to Steve “Richo” Richardson for looking after new member signings and firing up the BBQ. He also was the first to crack a beer, and muchly deserved too!
Stay tuned for all information on next month's event, which will be the First Round of the “Surfing Component” of Club Championships. This will be a mobile event in which we will endeavour to find the best possible venue for waves and weather conditions. Information will be posted on the SUPSA and Seebreeze website at our earliest convenience and SUPSA financial members will be notified of venue via text message the day before.
See you all next month
